Storage boxes; Flooring; Spring loaded chassis brackets
This week we started building the storage boxes, which will be underslung from the canopy. There are 2 beveled ones at the rear or the truck, and one to sit between the fuel tank and the rear wheel.
These 2 cabinets will sit behind the rear wheels.
One side will hold 3 9Kg gas clinders. and maybe some firewood.
The other side will be for dirty stuff, like snatch straps, ropes, stuff for the fire (billy; pots; stand; etc), and so on.
The back edge is beveled at about 60 degrees to help with the departure angle.
The square box will hold heavy things that won't be required all that often, like spare parts, oil, tools, etc and will sit in the gap between the fuel tank and the rear wheel.
Having the heavy stuff down low will be good for the centre of gravity.
Also progressed this week, the floor got laid on top of the frame. Underneath the marine ply is 75mm sheets of blue insulating material (you can see a bit of it in the background), same as they use in building refrigerated trucks.
The brackets to hold the frame to the chassis have all been made too. The central locating pin will be flanked by 2 springs above and below the join. This will allow the chassis to move a bit underneath the cabin but still be firmly located in place.
The top part of the bracket will be welded to the frame in due course.
This is the aluminium edging that will go right around the base of the frame. The insulated panels will butt up against this, and there are special corner extrusions to give a nice rounded corner.
All of the aluminium edging will be painted in 2 pack gloss white to match the wall panels, and be riveted onto the frame.
